A thriving business provides an opportunity to do good while doing well. Spell’s company culture holds community at its core, so giving back to our local and global communities is an integral part of our business operations. Aside from the many non-profits/fundraisers we have donated to we currently contribute annually to two major partners:
Climate Council
The Climate Council is Australia’s leading climate change communications organisation. They are working to bridge the gap of knowledge between climate scientists, health, renewable energy and policy experts and the general public to break down complex issues and translate climate science so it’s clear and easy to understand. Education and awareness is essential to generate widespread change, which makes their work so important.
Bunjum Aboriginal Corporation
The Bunjum Aboriginal Corporation is a local and wholly Aboriginal owned and managed co-operative. Based out of Ballina, the organisation aims to address the cultural barriers that affect schooling, employment, housing, health, and access to a range of opportunities that are taken for granted by the general population by providing culturally appropriate services for the Aboriginal Community and to boost self determination. Following the March 2022 Northern Rivers Floods, they have doubled their efforts in working to support and service communities that have been displaced and traumatised as a result of the floods.
On behalf of our entire Spell
community we are proud to be able to
give back in times of need
Northern Rivers Floods, March 2022
We have donated $98,637 to local Bundjalung not-for-profit Bunjum Aboriginal Corporation on behalf of our entire Spell community.
The recent flood has had a devastating impact on local Aboriginal communities. Bunjum’s services cover the Ballina LGA (Cabbage Tree Island, Wardell, Ballina, Alstonville, Wollongbar and Lennox Head). Many Aboriginal families have been impacted emotionally and financially and communities have lost everything, houses, community centres and schools; the trauma will be felt for decades to come. Bunjum have implemented short-term and long-term strategies to help their communities.
From little things big things grow…
There are many Giving Back moments that have not been quantified here, from gift vouchers and garments donated to local charity fundraising, the mentoring we offer the next generation within our local community, standing behind the youth of our community as they lead climate strikes, providing gifts and hampers to local families in need, sewing joey pouches in the wake of the bushfires, and setting up local donation drop points and joining the “mud army” as part of the flood recovery–philanthropy is an integral part of our team culture at Spell.
Australian Bushfire Relief 2020
We are so proud to have contributed almost A$1 million to various Australian non-profit organisations assisting in bushfire relief:
$967,833 raised via our Unicorn Tears pre-order collection of sought after archive pieces (split towards WIRES, St Vincent De Paul Society, NSW RFS, CFA Brigades, CFS Foundation, Wildlife Victoria).
$15,000 directly donated (split towards RFS, Red Cross Fire Appeal and CFA Victoria.
$6,572 RRP of product to Thread Together.
We thank our Spell community for supporting our 2020 Unicorn Tears initiative, without this heartfelt support a donation of this size would not have been possible!
